Classic Xuron®: The Orange Handled Snips

In the beading world Xuron® tools are known for their orange handles.  There are two tools in particular, the 410 micro-shear flush cutter® and the 2175 maxi-shear™ flush cutter.  These two have been in the jewelers tool box for sometime now and are highly regarded.

The 410 and the 2175 are really quite different.

The 410 is petite and can cut up to an 18ga soft wire and will cut beading cables like SoftFlex with ease.  This is the perfect tool for a jeweler who loves bead stringing.

The 2175 is a hefty fella’ and is fabulous for cutting larger gauges up to a 12 ga. This is a great “go-to” snip.  The 2175 is perfect for the jeweler who works with a wide range of materials.  This is also a great tool for metalsmiths!

Here is a quick video demoing the two tools, check it out!

Resources for Model Hobbyists

Model Railroad Layout from iHobby Expo 2011

As a model hobbyist where do you go when you need to know how to apply a decal, the best way to install a DCC system for your model train set or how to keep your model plane from crashing (that one’s for my Dad)?

Of course, your local hobby shop is the first natural choice but you should also look to your local IPMS, NMRA or AMA club for guidance, support and camaraderie.

I’ve been fortunate to have met many members of our local IPMS chapter (and one is now a Xuron Corp employee), and can attest to how supportive these people are to other members of the model building community.

So, the next time you need a little guidance, or maybe even some motivation to finish a project, check out one of these great groups:

IPMS (International Plastic Modeler’s Society)

NMRA (National Model Railroad Association)

AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics)

Please feel free to share with us your favorite “go-to” place (or person) you turn to when you need a little inspiration or assistance.

Kevlar® — how to cut it?

Model 9180 Kevlar® Scissor

Xuron®'s Model 9180 Kevlar® Scissor

Kevlar® , a high strength aramid fiber is used for many purposes but one in particular is to provide protection to the optical fiber portion of fiber optic cables.   Because this material is so strong, and abrasive, it is very difficult to cut and will dull the edges of a traditional scissors or wire cutter very quickly.

To solve this problem, Xuron Corporation developed a precision, industrial scissors especially for cutting Kevlar®.  The Xuron® Model 9180 Kevlar® Scissors will cleanly and effectively cut Kevlar® as well as other high strength materials.  Our proprietary grinding technique is what gives this scissors it’s long lasting “edge”.  Also, we serrate the edge of one blade which helps hold the fiber and keep it from slipping when cutting.

For more information, or to receive a sample for evaluation, please contact your local Xuron® Sales Representative.
