Xuron® Tool Care and Maintenance

Xuron® Tool selection

Not to say that any of you, our wonderful customers don’t treat your Xuron® tools like gold and take the very best care of them, but sometimes it’s nice to share a few  tips for care and maintenance:

Xuron® Models 9100, 2175ET, 2275 & 170-II
  • This sounds very elementary but the best way to extend the life of your Xuron® tools is be sure to use them for their recommended purpose.  For instance, our popular model 2175 Maxi-Shear™ Flush Cutter will cut soft wire up to 12 AWG (2mm) but if you try to cut a piece of hard wire with it, the sharp cutting edges will dent (FYI – we have a hard wire cutter for that type of work, Model 2193 or Model 2193F).
  • Storage.  Always try to store them where they will be free from moisture.  If you work in a humid environment you can apply some light rust preventative oil (here, we use a product called, Rustlick™) to the tool providing it won’t contaminate your work.
  • Keep the moving parts lightly oiled.  Occasionally apply a small dab of WD-40® to the rivet joint – this will keep it moving freely.

Got another great tip to share?  We’d love to hear your comments.

I have four (4) model #410 Micro-Shear flush cutters I’ve purchased about 6 years ago and have used on an almost daily basis. Does Xuron offer re-sharpening back to factory spec? If so, please advise cost and instructions. if not, what is your recommendation? I know I could never recreate the same sharpening angle / technique as original, which I believe is the magic of these cutters.

    Kind regards,
    Toshi

    Hello Toshi,

    Thank you for your message!

Yes, we will be happy to resharpen these for you. You are correct that the “magic” of these cutters is the fact that cutting blades do not meet perfectly (they by pass) and therefore resharpening can be tricky.

If you would be so kind as to email me at, sales@xuron.com, I can gather your information and get you return authorization number. Cost to resharpen is minimal and for four (4) we would probably do so at no charge (except return shipping).

    Best regards,
    Abby

I have just received the 170 II micro-shear flush cutters, the 440 micro scisors, and the tweezer-nose 450 pliers, and I am astonished at the quality. The cutters, in particular, require far less pressure than anything else I own to cut through the same material

Unfortunately I tore open one of the the rust-preventative sleeves before I realised that it wasn’t just more packing. Is it possible for you to supply replacement sleeves, especially as I can see these wearing out long before the tool itself

My purchase was through Amazon, and I like in the UK

Thanks very much for your nice words — I’m happy you are so pleased with your purchase.

Yes, we can send a supply of the storage sleeves. Please contact me (sales@xuron.com) with your postal address and we’ll send them right away.

      Kind regards,

I have the Xuron 441 Thread and Cord Scissor which I have used exclusively for cutting Fireline since I purchased them about 2 years ago. They are no longer doing that precision cut that I loved. What is the best way to sharpen these scissors?
